Grants and Fellowships
Grants and fellowships can be an important source of research funding. On this page, you can find links to potential awards, guidelines for completing applications, and information about award-winners from our department.
Guidelines for sponsored research
When you write your grant proposal and receive grant funding, you will need to follow Northwestern’s research guidelines:
- Complete key forms
Graduate students must work with the Weinberg Research Administration Office to submit research grant proposals - Obtain IRB approval for all projects involving human subjects
Northwestern’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) must approve any project with human subjects prior to data collection and, in many cases, before you can receive grants for research. Be sure to obtain approval by the time decisions are expected from granting agency panels. The process can take several months to complete.
Internal grants and fellowships
Northwestern’s Office of Fellowships lists wide variety possible grants for graduate students.
The Graduate School (TGS) administers a number of internal grants and fellowships, including:
- Presidential Fellowship
- Graduate Research Fellowship
- Summer Language Grant
